About Mark James: Your Neighbor and Advocate

For over 30 years, Marysville has been home to my wife Renae and me, both proud U.S. Army veterans, where we raised our three sons—Jonathan, Matthew, and Joshua. All three graduated from Marysville Getchell High School and now serve as County Sheriff Deputies, carrying on our family’s commitment to community. I’m passionate about our town, whether I’m capturing its beauty as a professional photographer on Pacific Northwest hikes or supporting local businesses through my work as an owner of Hometown Values Savings Magazine.

Since being elected to the Marysville City Council in 2018, I’ve worked hard to keep our community strong and vibrant. I’ve advocated for balanced budgets, public safety, and smart infrastructure projects like the 1st Street Bypass, State Avenue upgrades, and expanded parks and trails—all without raising your property taxes. My focus is on fiscal responsibility and investing in what makes Marysville a great place to live, work, and raise a family. I also serve on the Marysville Fire Board, the Snohomish County Planning Commission, and on Community Development Block Grant and Government Affairs committees.

Community service is at the heart of everything I do. I’m proud to volunteer with groups like the Marysville Police Foundation, Marysville Rotary, and the Citizen Emergency Response Team, while supporting local organizations such as the Marysville Food Bank and Salvation Army. I am focused on transparency, planning, responsible resource management and public safety and to that end have taken classes to deepen my knowledge of these subjects and have earned the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership offered through the Association of WA Cities.

I’m running for re-election because I love Marysville and want to keep it moving forward. With the support of Mayor Jon Nehring, my fellow Councilmembers, and local leaders like County Councilmembers Nate Nehring and Sam Low. I’m committed to advocating for our shared values, keeping taxes low, and ensuring our city remains a safe, welcoming place for all. I’d be honored to earn your vote as we continue building a bright future for Marysville together!
